Making a watermark readable but quiet

The watermark is drawn on top of each page’s content, so it shows over pictures as well as text. A low opacity marks the page clearly while leaving it readable; diagonal text across the middle is harder to crop out than a line along the edge.

Select the pages to stamp if only some need it, for example DRAFT on the body pages but not the cover. The text uses a standard PDF font, which covers Latin letters, numbers and common punctuation.

Because it is ordinary page content, a watermark prints and shows in every viewer. Use it on review copies and drafts, and keep an unmarked original for the final version. Short words read best; a long sentence is shrunk to fit across the page and becomes hard to read.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a watermark be removed?

A text watermark is drawn onto the page, but anyone with a PDF editor can delete it. It signals status (draft, copy); it is not protection.

Which characters can I use?

Latin letters, numbers and common punctuation for now, since the watermark uses the standard PDF font. Other scripts are planned.

Can I add an image or logo as a watermark?

Not as a watermark yet. For now, place a logo with the Sign tool, which accepts an uploaded image and lets you position and size it on a page.
