Each letter grade gets its points on the standard 4.0 scale (A = 4.0, A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3 … D− = 0.7, F = 0), and your GPA is the total of points × credits divided by the total credits. On the weighted scale, Honors courses add 0.5 and AP/IB courses add 1.0 (an F stays 0); a cumulative GPA folds in your previous GPA times your previous credits.

Changes
- Redesigned: weighting is now set per course (Honors +0.5, AP/IB +1) instead of adding a point to every grade, and you can add your previous GPA and credits for a cumulative GPA.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the GPA scale and how does it work?
The most common GPA scale ranges from 0.0 to 4.0. Each letter grade maps to a numeric value: A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, and F = 0.0. With plus/minus grades, values adjust by 0.3 (e.g., B+ = 3.3, B- = 2.7). Your GPA is the weighted average of these values based on credit hours.
What is the difference between cumulative and semester GPA?
Semester GPA reflects your performance in a single term, calculated using only that semester's courses. Cumulative GPA includes all courses from every semester throughout your academic career, giving an overall picture of your academic performance. To get it here, open Cumulative GPA and enter your GPA so far and the credits it covers.
What is a weighted GPA and how does it differ from unweighted?
An unweighted GPA uses the standard 4.0 scale for all courses. A weighted GPA gives extra points for advanced courses like AP or honors classes (often on a 5.0 scale). For example, an A in an AP course might count as 5.0 instead of 4.0. Choose Weighted above, then mark each Honors (+0.5) or AP/IB (+1.0) course; regular courses keep their 4.0-scale points.
What is considered a good GPA?
A GPA of 3.0 (B average) is generally considered good. A 3.5 or above is very good, and 3.7+ is excellent. For graduate school admissions, most programs look for 3.0 or higher. For competitive programs and scholarships, a 3.5+ is typically expected. However, standards vary by institution and field.
How do credit hours affect my GPA?
Credit hours weight each course's impact on your GPA. A 4-credit course affects your GPA twice as much as a 2-credit course. GPA is calculated by multiplying each course's grade points by its credits, summing these quality points, and dividing by total credits attempted.
