How this works

Method

Age is counted in complete years, then complete months, then the remaining days between the date of birth and the date you choose (today by default). When a month is too short for the birth day, the date moves to that month’s last day, and a 29 February birthday counts on 1 March in common years. Totals are whole calendar days, so daylight-saving changes never shift them.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is age calculated exactly?

Age is calculated by finding the difference between your date of birth and the target date. The calculator counts complete years, then remaining complete months, and finally remaining days. This gives you a precise breakdown like '25 years, 3 months, and 14 days' rather than just a rounded number.

How does the calculator handle leap years?

The calculator correctly accounts for leap years. If you were born on February 29, your birthday in non-leap years is considered to fall on March 1 for age calculation purposes. The total days calculation also correctly includes all leap days that occurred between your birth date and the target date.

Can I calculate my age in different units?

Yes, this calculator provides your age in multiple units simultaneously. In addition to years, months, and days, it shows your total days lived, total weeks, and total months. It also calculates fun statistics like total hours, minutes, and seconds you have been alive.

What is the difference between chronological and biological age?

Chronological age is your actual age based on your date of birth, which is what this calculator measures. Biological age refers to how old your body appears to be based on health markers like fitness level, cellular health, and organ function. Two people with the same chronological age can have very different biological ages depending on lifestyle and genetics.
