What a PDF says about you

Every PDF can carry an information dictionary with Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Creator (the app that made the document), Producer (the library that wrote the PDF) and creation and modification dates. Author is often filled in automatically from the name on the computer that made the file.

Clear these before sharing a document publicly if you would rather not reveal who wrote it or with which software. Set a clear Title for PDFs you publish on a website: it is shown in the browser tab and in search results instead of the file name.

Page content is never changed here: the text, images and links on the pages stay exactly as they were, and only the document details are rewritten.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the PDF title matter?

Browsers and readers show the document title in the tab and window instead of the file name, and search engines use it for PDFs on the web.

Does clearing metadata remove everything hidden?

It clears the document information fields (title, author, subject, keywords, creator, producer). Some files also carry XMP metadata or hidden content in pages; those aren’t edited here yet.

Can I change the creation date?

The tool edits the title, author, subject and keywords and can clear the details. Setting a specific creation date is not offered.
