Paper sizes and image quality

PDF measures pages in points, 72 to the inch: A4 is 595 × 842 points and US Letter 612 × 792. Choose A4 or Letter for documents that will be printed, or fit to image so each page is exactly the size of its photo with no white border.

JPG files are embedded byte for byte, so a 3 MB photo adds about 3 MB to the PDF and loses no quality. PNG images, including screenshots, are stored losslessly. A margin keeps images away from the edge, which most printers cannot reach anyway.

Phone photos are turned upright from their EXIF orientation, and with the orientation on automatic each page follows its image, portrait or landscape, so a mix of shots lays out without manual turning.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are my photos compressed?

JPG and PNG images go into the PDF exactly as they are, with no quality loss. WebP images are converted to PNG first, since PDF can’t hold WebP.

Why was my phone photo sideways in other converters?

Phones store many photos sideways with a note saying how to turn them (EXIF orientation). This tool reads that note and places the photo upright.

How do I make the PDF smaller?

The PDF is about the size of the images you add. Resize or re-save large photos at a lower quality before converting; compression inside this tool is planned for a later version.
