Ten minutes that count
Ten minutes of brisk walking is a realistic way into the weekly activity target. The WHO and the CDC both set at least 150 minutes of moderate activity a week for adults, and US guidelines dropped the old rule that only bouts of 10 minutes or more counted, so shorter walks add up too. Fifteen ten-minute walks make the full 150; three a day on weekdays gets you there by Friday.
Beyond exercise, ten minutes suits a stretching routine, clearing one drawer or shelf, a daily language lesson, a phone call you want to keep short, or letting a roast rest before carving. Many people also use a ten-minute block to plan the day: write down the three things that matter most, then stop when it rings instead of polishing the list. Short, fixed blocks like this are easier to fit around childcare or a commute than one long session, and they still add up over a week.
- Since the 2018 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans, any duration of moderate-to-vigorous activity counts toward the weekly goal; the earlier requirement for bouts of at least 10 minutes was removed. - The World Health Organization recommends that adults do at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity a week. Source: World Health Organization, Physical activity fact sheet.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a 10-minute walk count as exercise?
Yes. Brisk walking is moderate-intensity activity, and under the 2018 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans any amount of it counts toward the 150 minutes a week adults are advised to get. The earlier rule that only 10-minute bouts counted was removed.
How many 10-minute sessions make 150 minutes?
Fifteen. Two ten-minute walks a day for a week gives 140 minutes, so one extra session tops it up; three a day on weekdays reaches 150 by Friday. Restart this timer for each one, or add minutes with the + key when you feel like going further.
Can I read the 10-minute timer from across the room?
Press F, or the full-screen button, and the countdown fills the screen in large digits that read from the far side of a kitchen or classroom. The controls fade while it runs and come back when you move the mouse or tap; Esc leaves the full-screen view.
