São Paulo’s time zone

São Paulo keeps Brasília Time (BRT), UTC−3, all year round: its clocks do not change for summer. Phones and computers set São Paulo’s clocks from the America/Sao_Paulo zone of the IANA tz database, and so does this page.

São Paulo keeps Brasília Time, UTC−3, all year. Brazil’s summer time, which ran in the south and south-east from November to February, ended with a decree signed on 25 April 2019; its last season ran from November 2018 to February 2019. Before that, the summer offset of UTC−2 put São Paulo three hours ahead of New York in January.

Brazil is wide enough for four offsets. The Atlantic islands of Fernando de Noronha keep UTC−2, Manaus and most of the Amazon keep UTC−4, and Acre in the far west keeps UTC−5. Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, Belo Horizonte and the whole south-east share São Paulo’s clock. Because Brazil no longer shifts while the northern hemisphere does, São Paulo is one hour ahead of New York from March to November and two hours ahead in the northern winter.

BRT = UTC −3
