Paris’s time zone
Paris keeps Central European Time: CET (UTC+1) for the colder months and CEST (UTC+2) while daylight saving is on. In 2027 the clocks go forward on Sunday 28 March and back again on Sunday 31 October. Phones and computers set Paris’s clocks from the Europe/Paris zone of the IANA tz database, and so does this page.
France kept its own Paris Mean Time until 1911, then moved to Greenwich time. It took Central European Time during the German occupation, on 14 June 1940, and after the war kept it: since 16 September 1945 Paris has stayed an hour ahead of London, even though it lies west of the 7.5° E meridian where Central European Time begins on the map.
Summer time returned in 1976 and has followed the shared European calendar since 1977. Under EU Directive 2000/84/EC every member state changes at the same instant, 01:00 UTC on the last Sunday of March and of October, so Paris matches Berlin, Madrid, Rome, Brussels and Amsterdam all year. Because Paris is west within its zone, sunrise and sunset come late by the clock: summer evenings stay light past 9:30 pm.
