Dublin’s time zone
Dublin keeps Irish time: GMT (UTC+0) for the colder months and IST (UTC+1) while daylight saving is on. In 2027 the clocks go forward on Sunday 28 March and back again on Sunday 31 October. Phones and computers set Dublin’s clocks from the Europe/Dublin zone of the IANA tz database, and so does this page.
Ireland’s clock reads the same as London’s all year, but Irish law describes it differently. The Standard Time Act of 1968 made UTC+1 Ireland’s standard time, and the amendment of 1971 kept that standard for the summer while putting the country on Greenwich Mean Time in winter. So in Ireland the summer clock is “Irish Standard Time” (IST), and the winter clock is the exception.
The tz database follows the law: since its 2018 releases it models Dublin’s winter as a negative daylight saving period, which is unusual enough that some software needed a fallback version. Before independence Dublin kept its own mean time, 25 minutes 21 seconds behind Greenwich, until 1 October 1916. Ireland changes its clocks on the same European dates as the UK, so Dublin, London and Lisbon always match, one hour behind Paris and Berlin.
