How this works

Method

Here IST means India Standard Time, UTC+5:30 all year; MST means Mountain Time, MST (UTC−7) in its winter and MDT (UTC−6) in its summer, as kept in Denver. So MST is 12 h 30 min behind IST, and MDT is 11 h 30 min behind. Two 9-to-5 working days do not overlap at all, so one side has to start early or stay late. Full method

Changes

  • 15 more conversion pages (IST to CST, BST to IST, SGT, GST, JST, MST and more); each conversion page shows all 24 hours with working hours shaded, and its best meeting times.
  • The pickers find about a thousand more cities, states and countries (Seattle, Bangalore, Texas), and each conversion page names the next clock change on either side.
  • The converter opens on the time now, live, with a Now choice beside the time, and the main converter starts from your own time zone.
  • First published, with a world clock, pages for the time in 31 places and 15 common conversions such as PST to IST.

How to convert IST to MST

Here IST means India Standard Time, UTC+5:30 all year; MST means Mountain Time, MST (UTC−7) in its winter and MDT (UTC−6) in its summer, as kept in Denver. So MST is 12 h 30 min behind IST, and MDT is 11 h 30 min behind. Two 9-to-5 working days do not overlap at all, so one side has to start early or stay late.

From India, Mountain Time matters to people working with firms in Denver, Boulder and Salt Lake City, to students at universities in Colorado, Utah and Arizona, and to families in Phoenix. It is one of the widest gaps to the US mainland: a Denver working day of 9:00 am to 5:00 pm runs from 9:30 pm to 5:30 am in India in winter, so live calls usually sit late in the Indian evening or early in the Indian morning.

Check which part of Mountain Time the other person is in. Denver changes to MDT in March and back to MST in November, which moves a fixed Denver meeting an hour on your Indian calendar. Phoenix never changes, so a Phoenix meeting stays at the same Indian time all year, and in summer Phoenix is an hour behind Denver. When a US form or webinar says only “MT”, it usually means whatever Denver’s clock shows on the day.

Rule of thumb: Subtract 12½ hours from Indian time (11½ while Denver is on MDT): 9:00 pm IST is 8:30 am MST or 9:30 am MDT the same day.

MST = IST −12:30 · MDT = IST −11:30
