How this works
Method
Here IST means India Standard Time, UTC+5:30 all year; CET means Central European Time, CET (UTC+1) in its winter and CEST (UTC+2) in its summer, as kept in Berlin. So CET is 4 h 30 min behind IST, and CEST is 3 h 30 min behind. Two 9-to-5 working days overlap by 3 h 30 min in January and 4 h 30 min in July. Full method

How to convert IST to CET
Here IST means India Standard Time, UTC+5:30 all year; CET means Central European Time, CET (UTC+1) in its winter and CEST (UTC+2) in its summer, as kept in Berlin. So CET is 4 h 30 min behind IST, and CEST is 3 h 30 min behind. Two 9-to-5 working days overlap by 3 h 30 min in January and 4 h 30 min in July.
IST to CET is how teams in India plan work with Germany, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Poland and the rest of Central Europe, and how students in Europe are reached from home. Europe’s day starts while India is at lunch, so the overlap is long: from about 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm IST in winter, and from 12:30 pm in summer, the European morning and the Indian afternoon share the office hours.
Most of Central Europe keeps CET (UTC+1) in winter and CEST (UTC+2) from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October, all switching at the same moment. India stays put, so the gap shrinks from 4 h 30 min to 3 h 30 min each spring. Not every European country is on CET: the UK, Ireland and Portugal are an hour behind it, and Finland, Greece and Romania an hour ahead. This page follows Berlin.
Rule of thumb: Subtract 4½ hours from Indian time in winter (CET) or 3½ in summer (CEST): 3:00 pm IST is 10:30 am CET or 11:30 am CEST.
CET = IST −4:30 · CEST = IST −3:30
- EU law fixes one switching moment for every member state: summer time starts at 1:00 am GMT on the last Sunday in March and ends at 1:00 am GMT on the last Sunday in October. Source: Directive 2000/84/EC on summer-time arrangements (EUR-Lex).
