Hong Kong has kept UTC+8 since 1904, apart from the Japanese occupation from December 1941 to 1945, when it ran on Tokyo time. It used summer time on and off for decades, regularly from 1946 to 1976 and for the last time from 13 May to 21 October 1979, according to the Hong Kong Observatory, which keeps the territory’s official time.
