Cairo’s time zone

Cairo keeps Eastern European Time: EET (UTC+2) for the colder months and EEST (UTC+3) while daylight saving is on. In 2027 the clocks go forward on Friday 30 April and back again on Friday 29 October. Phones and computers set Cairo’s clocks from the Africa/Cairo zone of the IANA tz database, and so does this page.

Egypt has used Eastern European Time, UTC+2, since 1900, but its summer time has come and gone. It changed clocks every year for decades, suspended summer time after 2010, brought it back in 2014 with an unusual pause for Ramadan (clocks went back on 26 June and forward again on 31 July), then dropped it from 2015 to 2022.

Summer time returned in 2023, and the current rule is distinctive: clocks go forward at midnight at the start of the last Friday in April and back at midnight at the end of the last Thursday in October, so the changes fall at the Egyptian weekend. The working week runs Sunday to Thursday. In summer Cairo matches Istanbul and Athens at UTC+3; in winter it is an hour behind Istanbul.

EET = UTC +2 · EEST = UTC +3
