Mbps to MB/s Converter
Type your internet speed in Mbps to get the download speed in MB/s that browsers and game launchers show.
100 Mbit/s =
12.5MB/s
100 megabits per second is 12.5 megabytes per second.

- 0.125 MB/s
- 1 MB/s
- 8 Mbit/s
How to convert Mbps to MB/s
Divide megabits per second by 8. Internet plans are sold in bits per second, but browsers, Steam and file managers show downloads in bytes per second, and a byte is 8 bits. A 300 Mbps plan can move at most 300 ÷ 8 = 37.5 MB/s.
Watch the letter case: a small b means bits (Mb, Mbps), a capital B means bytes (MB, MB/s). Some download tools also use binary mebibytes, so the same 300 Mbps can appear as 35.76 MiB/s.
Real downloads come in below the line speed, because every packet carries headers, Wi-Fi adds its own overhead, and the server at the other end may be the slower side. Treat the converted figure as a ceiling, not a promise.
megabytes per second = megabits per second ÷ 8
- A byte is 8 bits, so 1 MB/s is 8 Mbit/s; the binary MiB/s is 8 × 1,048,576 bits per second. Source: NIST, Prefixes for binary multiples (IEC 80000-13).
How to estimate Mbps to MB/s in your head
Halve three times: 200 Mbps → 100 → 50 → 25 MB/s. Or divide by 10 for a slightly pessimistic figure that already allows for some overhead: 200 Mbps gives “about 20 MB/s”.
To guess a download time, multiply the file size in GB by 8,000 and divide by your Mbps: a 50 GB game at 100 Mbps takes at least 4,000 seconds, a little over an hour.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is 100 Mbps fast?
100 Mbps is at most 12.5 MB/s, enough to download a 1 GB file in about 80 seconds in ideal conditions. Whether it is “fast” depends on how many people and devices share it.
Why does my 1 Gbps connection only download at about 110 MB/s?
1 Gbps divided by 8 is 125 MB/s before any overhead. Network headers and the link itself take a share, and many tools show MiB/s, where 125 MB/s is 119.21 MiB/s, so 110-something is a healthy result.
What is the difference between Mbps and MBps?
Mbps is megabits per second; MBps (or MB/s) is megabytes per second. One MB/s equals 8 Mbps.
