How to convert km to miles
Divide the kilometers by 1.609344, the exact number of kilometers in a mile; multiplying by 0.621371 gives the same answer to six figures. A 5 km run is 5 ÷ 1.609344 = 3.1069 miles, which is why a 5K is called a 3.1-mile race.
A half marathon of 21.0975 km is 13.1094 miles, and the full marathon of 42.195 km is 26.2188 miles, written as 26.2.
Road distances work the same way: an 80 km drive is 49.71 miles.
miles = kilometers ÷ 1.609344 (≈ kilometers × 0.621371)

How to estimate km to miles in your head
Use neighbouring Fibonacci numbers (5, 8, 13, 21, 34): 8 km is about 5 miles, 13 km about 8 miles and 21 km about 13 miles. It works because the ratio between them approaches 1.618, very close to the 1.609 kilometers in a mile.
Otherwise, multiply by 6 and drop a digit: 10 km × 6 = 60, so about 6 miles (exact: 6.21). That rule is a little over 3% low.
